Compatible Viking Models

Intended compatibility

  • Viking Javelin 14
  • Viking Javlin 14 — historical catalogue spelling
  • Viking Oxygen
  • Viking Oxygen 570 / Oxygen 5.7
  • Super Viking Ocean Ski

What is included

  • 1 × genuine Viking replacement steering T-bar
  • Central rudder-shaft socket
  • Twin steering-line attachment points

Not included: rudder, steering lines, foot controls or additional steering hardware.

The Javelin 14 was also written as “Javlin 14” in some original Viking catalogues and product listings. Both names refer to the compatible Viking ocean ski model covered by this replacement T-bar.

These are older craft, and individual fittings or previous repairs can vary. Compare the replacement T-bar with your existing steering assembly before ordering. If you are unsure, send Kayak and SUP clear photos of the existing T-bar, rudder shaft, retaining pin or bolt and steering-line connections.

How the T-Bar Fits

The central socket fits over the rudder shaft, while the attachment point at each end connects to the ski’s steering lines. When the foot controls move one steering line, the T-bar rotates the shaft and turns the rudder.

  1. Photograph the original steering-line routing and T-bar position before disassembly.
  2. Disconnect the steering lines and remove the existing retaining bolt or pin.
  3. Remove the damaged T-bar from the rudder shaft.
  4. Test-fit the replacement T-bar on the existing or replacement rudder shaft.
  5. Centre the rudder and T-bar, then secure them with suitable retaining hardware.
  6. Reconnect the steering lines to the T-bar’s end attachment points.
  7. Adjust both lines evenly and check full, smooth movement in both directions.

Do not cut or drill the T-bar.

When this T-bar is paired with the compatible new nylon rudder, the rudder shaft may require minor trimming and a retaining hole drilled after test-fitting. This accounts for possible differences in installed shaft length between Javelin, Oxygen and individual older craft. The drilling is performed on the rudder shaft—not on the T-bar and not on the kayak hull.

Reuse retaining hardware only if it is in good condition and fits correctly. If you are not confident installing or aligning the steering assembly, have the work completed by an experienced kayak repairer or technician.

Restore the Steering Connection

The T-bar is the mechanical link between the foot-controlled steering lines and the under-stern rudder. A correctly fitted and centred T-bar allows pedal input to rotate the rudder shaft, helping the ski hold its heading and change direction in wind, current, chop and surf.

Checks Before Returning to the Water

  • The retaining bolt or pin is fully secured.
  • The T-bar is centred when the rudder is straight.
  • The T-bar rotates without binding.
  • The steering lines are correctly attached.
  • Both steering lines are evenly tensioned.
  • The rudder reaches both steering directions smoothly.

Complete the first water test in calm, controlled conditions before relying on the repaired steering system offshore or in surf.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which kayaks and ocean skis is this T-bar compatible with?

It is intended for the Viking Javelin 14, also historically listed as the Viking Javlin 14, the Viking Oxygen and Oxygen 570/5.7, and the Super Viking Ocean Ski. Because these are older craft, compare your existing assembly or contact us with photos if you are unsure.

What exactly is included with this product?

This listing includes one genuine Viking replacement steering T-bar. The rudder, steering lines, foot controls and additional steering hardware are not included.

Is the rudder included?

No. This listing is for the T-bar only. The compatible rudder is a separate product and must also be purchased if your existing rudder or shaft is missing, damaged or unusable.

Can the T-bar be used without a rudder?

No. The T-bar transfers steering-line and foot-control movement to a compatible rudder shaft. Both components are required for the steering system to operate.

Do I need a new rudder if my existing rudder is still intact?

Not necessarily. If your existing rudder, shaft and retaining hardware remain serviceable and compatible, replacing the damaged T-bar alone may be sufficient.

Does the T-bar need to be cut or drilled?

No. Do not cut or drill the T-bar. If a new replacement rudder is being fitted, only its nylon shaft may require trimming and a retaining hole after careful test-fitting.

Why might the replacement rudder shaft need trimming or drilling?

The required installed shaft length can vary between Javelin, Oxygen and individual older craft. The replacement rudder shaft may need to be shortened slightly and drilled so its retaining hole aligns correctly with the T-bar and suitable bolt or pin.

Is this an original Viking Kayaks part?

Yes. This is a genuine original Viking replacement T-bar for the compatible models listed on this page.

Is stock limited?

Yes. Current availability is very limited and stock is offered only while supplies last.

What should I check after installation?

Before launching, confirm that the retaining bolt or pin is secure, the T-bar and rudder are centred, both steering lines are correctly attached and evenly tensioned, and the rudder moves freely in both directions. Carry out the first water test in calm, controlled conditions.
