Fast & Rigid

Full drop-stitch chambers deliver impressive stiffness and performance.
The hull slices through the water like a hard-shell canoe—but at only 20.3 kg (including seat and foot pegs).

Gear Tip: Drop-stitch keels work best when the bow is properly weighted. Place heavier gear forward to ensure your front keel stays fully engaged with the water.
Pro Tip: Tall paddlers can move the front seat forward by loosening the straps and shifting the foot pegs to the furthest position. It dramatically improves comfort on long trips.

🌊 Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak – Full Drop-Stitch Speed, Space & Stability

The Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak is a rare combination of speed, rigidity and spaciousness — thanks to its full drop-stitch construction and deep bow/stern keels that hold their line even in windy conditions. Wider than similar kayaks on the market, it offers outstanding stability and room for tall paddlers, families, dogs and multi-day gear.

If you want a tandem kayak that feels like a hard shell, paddles beautifully, tracks straight and provides genuine comfort for two adults, this is it.

❓FAQs

How fast is the Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak?

The Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak is impressively fast for a tandem inflatable. Its full drop-stitch chambers give it excellent rigidity, so the hull slices cleanly through the water, feeling much closer to a hard-shell canoe-style kayak than a typical inflatable.

Does the Odyssey Tandem track straight?

Yes. The Odyssey tracks extremely well thanks to the unique drop-stitch keels in both the bow and stern. These keels angle down into the water, keeping the kayak on a straight line even without the fin fitted. With the paddlers’ weight positioned slightly forward, the bow keel stays fully engaged, which is especially helpful in windy conditions.

Is the Odyssey Tandem affected by wind?

Directionally, the Odyssey holds its line very well in wind because of the bow and stern keels. However, the side walls sit above the waterline, so the kayak can still be pushed sideways by stronger winds. You keep your steering control, but you may experience some drift.

How comfortable is the Odyssey Tandem for longer paddles?

The Odyssey is designed for comfort on short outings and full-day trips. The high-backed seats give excellent lumbar support, and the D-rings are mounted high on the side chambers to improve the seat angle. Detachable foam bum cushions let you choose between easier paddling (sitting higher) or greater stability (sitting lower). Four foot pegs (two for each paddler) mean you can brace properly and reduce strain on your back.

What kind of foot and back support does it offer?

The Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak comes with 2 sets of adjustable foot pegs, including a central position for solo paddling. These allow both paddlers to brace their feet during each stroke, which greatly reduces back fatigue. The high, stiff seat backs with adjustable straps provide very good lumbar support and can be tuned to your preferred paddling position.

Is the Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak good for dogs?

Yes. The Odyssey is ideal for dogs. It has a wide, flat, stable hull and an open cockpit, so dogs have space to move without making the kayak feel tippy. The drop-stitch floor is extremely tough and does not require extra protection for claws. Many paddlers comfortably fit two adults and one or two dogs.

Can I use the Odyssey Tandem for fishing?

Absolutely. The wide, stable hull is excellent for relaxed fishing. The durable drop-stitch PVC gives you confidence around hooks, fish spikes, and gear. You can add optional Railblaza rod holders and even a small anchor if you want to stay in one spot while the fish are biting.

Is the Odyssey Tandem suitable for kids and families?

Yes. The Odyssey is super-stable, spacious, and has a wide open cockpit, making it a great family kayak. Kids can move around, rest or play without making the kayak feel unstable, and there is plenty of room for snacks, towels, and extra gear.

Can I use the Odyssey Tandem as a tender for a boat?

Yes. Its full drop-stitch rigidity and open cockpit make it well-suited as a tender. Stepping down from a boat into the Odyssey feels solid and supported, rather than soft or spongy like some inflatables.

What length of trip is the Odyssey Tandem suitable for?

The Odyssey is comfortable and efficient enough for anything from a 1-hour paddle to a full-day trip. It can also be used for multi-day expeditions thanks to its generous internal space. Just keep in mind it is an open-deck kayak, so some paddle drips and splash can enter the cockpit.

Is the Odyssey Tandem suitable for open ocean paddling?

It is not recommended for rough open ocean conditions. The Odyssey does not include a spray deck or bail ports, so any waves breaking into the cockpit will leave water inside the kayak. For choppy open water, a sit-in kayak with spray skirt and/or bail ports is a better choice. If you do expect conditions to get rough, we recommend carrying a kayak bilge pump.

Is the Odyssey Tandem a whitewater kayak?

No. The Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak is designed to paddle in a straight line and is not intended for technical whitewater. It can handle up to Class I–II rivers but is not recommended for whitewater above Class II.

Is the Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak suitable for seniors?

It depends on your needs. At 20.3 kg, the Odyssey is not the lightest tandem inflatable, but with good teamwork it is manageable for many seniors. On the water it is extremely stable and confidence-inspiring, but the higher side walls can make getting in and out a little more difficult. If easy entry/exit and low weight are your top priorities, consider the Quest Tandem Inflatable Kayak (17.1 kg).

Is the Odyssey Tandem suitable for beginners?

Yes. The Odyssey’s key beginner-friendly feature is its stability. Once you’re seated, it feels solid and predictable, and the hull design makes it very easy to paddle in a straight line. Keep in mind that, as with any tandem, good communication between paddlers is helpful.

Is it easy to get in and out of the Odyssey Tandem?

The Odyssey has a wide, open cockpit and is very stable once you are inside. However, the higher side walls make entry and exit a bit more challenging compared to the Quest Tandem, which is specifically designed for very easy “flop in and out” boarding.

Is the Odyssey Tandem comfortable for tall paddlers?

Yes. The Odyssey Tandem Inflatable Kayak is long and spacious inside. You can adjust the seat position and move the foot pegs to the furthest setting to maximise leg room. Even two very tall paddlers can sit comfortably without feeling cramped.

How durable is the Odyssey Tandem?

The Odyssey forms part of the Jaspara range and is built using premium-quality drop-stitch PVC. Each kayak is fully inflated and left for a 7-day period at the factory to ensure there are no leaks before packing. Handles, seats, D-rings, and foot pegs are all positioned to give a stable, well-balanced paddling experience.

Can I paddle the Odyssey Tandem solo?

Yes. While it is primarily a tandem, there is a central seating and foot-peg position that allows you to paddle it solo. Many paddlers enjoy using it both ways, depending on the day and conditions.

How do I clean and pack away the kayak?

Open the bung and stand the kayak upright and face down to let water drain out. You can hose it down if you like, then either air dry or towel dry. Once clean and dry, follow the folding instructions in the manual. And yes — it really does go back into the roller bag!

How long does it take to set up the Odyssey Tandem?

Using a 12V electric pump, setup is around 8.5 minutes once you are familiar with the process. Pack-away time is approximately 6.5 minutes. With a manual pump, allow a bit longer, as the 10 PSI inflation pressure is higher than standard inflatables.

In this guide we break down the key differences in weight, stability, capacity, wind performance and ease of getting in and out, so you can quickly see which kayak is the better match for your body, your gear and your style of paddling. Quest Tandem vs Odyssey Tandem

Lightweight & Easy Access

Jaspara Quest Tandem

  • Weight: 17.1 kg — extremely light for a tandem; easy to lift even for solo paddlers.
  • Easier solo handling — Emily can lift it above her head; ideal for customers with back issues or towing setups.
  • Open-deck with side tubes — simple entry/exit; you can “flop in and out” effortlessly.
  • 4.0 m length — suitable for one tall + one average paddler.
  • Internal width: 45 cm — stable but more compact than Odyssey.
  • Less wind exposure — lower side tubes reduce wind catch.
  • Excellent tracking thanks to the drop-stitch keel system (even without a fin).
  • Better paddling action — lower side height makes your paddle stroke more natural.
  • Ideal for one medium dog or one child (or two very small kids).
  • Fast setup: ~6 minutes with 12V pump.

Best if: you want the lightest tandem, easy entry/exit, simple solo loading, and still excellent stability and tracking.

Big, Rigid & High Capacity

Jaspara Odyssey Tandem

  • Weight: 20.3 kg — only 3 kg more but crosses the threshold where solo lifting becomes hard.
  • Full drop-stitch side chambers — higher rigidity and a more “hard-shell feel.”
  • 4.5 m length — fits two tall paddlers comfortably.
  • Internal width: 50 cm — luxuriously spacious for large dogs, kids or big camping loads.
  • Higher side walls — better splash protection but more wind affected.
  • More deck height = slightly harder entry/exit compared to Quest.
  • More rigid under load — perfect for heavier paddlers (97 kg in video shows zero flex).
  • 20 kg more total capacity than the Quest.
  • Better at staying dry than the Quest (fewer drips inside).
  • Setup time: ~8.5 minutes (more air volume + high PSI side chambers).

Best if: you need extra room, carry lots of gear, have big dogs, are a heavier/taller pair, or want a very rigid large tandem for multi-day trips.

In short: Quest Tandem is the lightweight, easy-entry, solo-friendly option. Odyssey Tandem is the big, rigid, high-capacity choice for tall paddlers, families, heavy loads or multi-day adventures.
