From Local Shop to Sunshine Coast Legacy
Kayak & SUP has been a familiar name to paddlers and water lovers across the Sunshine Coast for years. Owned by Grant Montague , Previous owner of Viking Kayaks, the shop once stood proudly along Nicklin Way in Warana. It was more than just a store — it was a community hub for kayak enthusiasts, families, and weekend adventurers.
In May 2024, the physical shop closed its doors, but the spirit of Kayak & SUP never truly faded. Throughout the year that followed, online sales continued via the website, helping paddlers across Australia stay equipped and inspired.
A Fresh Start – Under New Ownership by a Familiar Face
In June 2025, a new chapter officially began. But for many of you — it’s not really a new face.
My name is Daniele — but most people call me Dan. I’m originally from Italy and deeply in love with Australia, especially this little piece of paradise known as the Sunshine Coast.
If you’ve visited Kayak & SUP in the past, chances are we’ve already met. I had the privilege of serving as General Manager of Kayak & SUP for several years before the store closed its physical location. I was there through it all — working alongside customers, rigging kayaks, helping families get started, and eventually assisting with the closure of the Warana showroom in 2024.
My connection to the kayak world is deeply personal. I discovered kayaking at a time when I was battling a long, difficult depression. It felt like there was no way out — until I stumbled upon the videos of Jason Milne, known online as Paddle Guy. His content lit a spark in me. I began paddling up and down the Maroochy River in a small second-hand sit-in kayak, dreaming of something more.
Then I found out Jason actually lived right here on the Sunshine Coast — and not only that, he was the manager at Viking Kayak & Surf. I ran to the shop, introduced myself, and we spoke for hours. That day marked the beginning of a powerful friendship. Through Jason, and through Viking Kayaks, I rediscovered passion, energy, and hope. Kayak fishing, offshore paddling, surf missions — they brought me back to life.
So when the opportunity came to take the reins and revive Kayak & SUP, it felt like a natural step. I know the brand, the community, and most importantly — I know many of you. Today, I’m relaunching Kayak & SUP with a fresh vision: a modern online-focused business, still rooted in community, adventure, and the same love for the water that saved me.
