In an ideal scenario, we'd love to believe that we meticulously care for our kayaks, ensuring they never encounter scrapes along the sand, come close to submerged rocks, or endure the discomfort of being dragged up the beach. However, let's be realistic – most of us will expose our kayak's hull to abrasion, scrapes, and chips at some point.
Introducing Keel Eazy, a cost-effective and straightforward solution for safeguarding your kayak's hull. This product consists of a PVC adhesive tape strip that conforms to the curvature of your keel, achieved by using a heat gun on a low setting. This not only aids in adhesion but also allows the tape to stretch around curved surfaces. It's crucial to use a heat gun – a hair dryer won't generate enough heat. This protective tape is suitable for fibreglass, thermoplastic, and composite kayaks.
Keel Eazy comes in various widths: 5cm, 7.5cm, and 10cm, with color options including red, yellow, orange, blue, green, black, and white. The 5cm strip is appropriate for most kayaks, while flatter-hulled kayaks like fishing kayaks, sit-on-tops, and recreational kayaks and canoes may benefit from a wider strip.
Typically, you would apply Keel Eazy along the entire centerline of the hull, focusing on areas most prone to abrasion or specific wear-zones.
